New App Helps Reunite Lost Pets with Owners
1 in 3 pets will get lost in their lifetime and Only 3-5% have microchips
Have You Heard About the NOSEiD app from IAMS?
This is so cool! The new NOSEiD app from IAMS uses image-detection technology to help lost dogs reunite with their owners. Since every dog has a unique nose print, kind of like a human's finger print, and can be used to locate lost dogs.
The NOSEiD scans and registers your dog's "nose" print in their system as a form of ID. If a person finds a lost dog, they can simply scan the dog's nose with the app and see if it's in their system and will help put the person who finds a lost dog in contact with their owner as quickly as possible.
This sure beats waiting a day or two to get to the vet or local animal shelter to see if the dog is chipped and possibly get the them back to their owners sooner than later. Since 1 out of 3 dogs will go missing in their lifetime, we think this new app is a great complement to microchips and ID tags. It's another awesome tool to help us reunite with our furbabies.
NOSEiD is already live in the Nashville area and we'll be expanding to more cities soon.
How it Works - Grab your smart phone. Let's do this!
- Download the NOSEiD app in the Apple or Google Play store.
- Create A Profile. Follow the prompts on the screen to create your profile. You'll fill in the basic stuff - contact info, dog(s) info & Pics
- Scan your Dog(s) nose. We will say that trying to get your pup not to move while taking a photo can be a little tricky, but we got it done and it was super easy to do.
- Ta-da...that's it! You and your pup's info is in the system!
What To Do If Your Dog Is Missing
If your dog is lost, you can go on the app and change your status to let others know that you are searching for your furbaby. NOSEiD will go to work to connect you with people who have found a lost dog near you. They’ll be asked a series of questions that will help identify whether the dog they’ve found could be yours. Once the app establishes a likely match, you’ll be put in contact and hopefully reunite with your dog quickly.
What To Do If You Find A Lost Dog
If you find a lost dog, the process works in mostly the same way. Change your status on the NOSEiD app to searching for an owner, check the lost dog profiles in your community, enter some information, scan the pup's nose and let the technology go to work. Once it makes a match it will provide you with the owner's contact information.
